Treatment Systems
From Lake Ontario-fed buildings in Toronto to harder-water communities across the Greater Toronto Area, mineral deposits and corrosion can take a toll on your building’s plumbing. Hytec treats the water after it reaches your property, helping control scale, protect existing pipes, and extend the life of the infrastructure you already have.

Protecting your plumbing starts with the water
Toronto’s drinking water comes from Lake Ontario and contains relatively low levels of calcium and magnesium compared with harder-water sources. Across the Greater Toronto Area, however, water conditions vary. Some surrounding communities receive harder groundwater, where higher concentrations of these minerals create additional challenges for building plumbing.
Municipal water treatment helps manage water quality and corrosion, but the plumbing inside each building faces its own conditions. Water moves through decades-old copper pipes, hot-water tanks, heat exchangers, and recirculation loops, where temperature, water velocity, and existing plumbing conditions influence how it behaves. In harder-water buildings, calcium and magnesium can accumulate as scale, restricting water flow and reducing equipment efficiency. Corrosion can also remain a concern, particularly as plumbing ages and deposits build up over time.
Hytec’s on-site AquaPlan addresses both challenges directly. Our treatment approach helps control mineral scale while protecting the copper piping beneath it. Rather than waiting for a depreciation report to recommend replacement, we intervene at the water level, helping extend the usable life of existing plumbing by years or even decades, depending on conditions. Our treatment products are NSF 60 certified, and applicable equipment is NSF 61 certified.
Here’s what makes up
a Hytec System:
how it works
Hytec installs a compact treatment unit that ties into your building’s domestic water supply, including a flow meter, dosing pumps, a sampling port, automatic shutoff functionality, and online monitoring. The meter tracks usage and signals the pumps to introduce treatment products proportional to demand, helping maintain accurate dosing whether the building is at peak use or overnight low flow.
A downstream sampling port allows treatment levels to be checked, while automated controls provide additional safeguards for the dosing system. Everything sits on a spill tray, and a backflow prevention valve keeps treated water from re-entering the municipal supply. Installation typically takes about eight hours, with minimal disruption to residents.
Hardware
Each Hytec installation is built from the same core components: a Backflow RPB Valve for municipal safety compliance, an ultrasonic flow meter with no moving parts for long-term reliability, dual digital dosing pumps that communicate directly with the meter, a stainless steel injection manifold made in Vancouver, and double-walled product tanks with tamper-proof locking lids. All equipment is covered under a full-term warranty for the life of your AquaPlan.
Building around your system’s water
There’s no universal treatment product because there’s no universal water. Hytec tailors its treatment approach to your building’s specific water chemistry and plumbing configuration, accounting for mineral hardness, existing deposits, and corrosion risks.
For buildings affected by hard-water scale, AquaSoft HW3 helps keep minerals suspended in the water, reducing new scale formation while gradually addressing existing deposits. AquaSoft SW works alongside it to form a protective mineral coating on exposed copper surfaces, helping control corrosion. Where needed, pH control is also incorporated to support treatment performance.
Each program is configured at installation and refined over time based on ongoing testing and monitoring. The underlying infrastructure remains consistent across Hytec installations, but the treatment strategy is customized to each building’s needs.

Water Treatment Products FAQs
Does the treatment fix leaks that already exist?
The protective coating is preventive, not structural. Existing leaks and compromised sections of pipe need to be located and physically repaired. Hytec’s treatment helps manage mineral scale and protect remaining plumbing against further corrosion and the development of future leaks.
Is Hytec’s treatment system safe?
Yes. Hytec’s treatment products are NSF 60 certified for use in drinking water treatment, and applicable equipment is NSF 61 certified. Phosphate-based corrosion control is also an established municipal water treatment practice, including in Toronto.
How much does it cost?
The cost depends on your building’s size, water conditions, and treatment needs. Contact us for a free on-site water analysis, and we’ll provide a proposal tailored to your property.
